Bill “Dawg” and the Dirt Road Rockers, from Cleveland, Ohio are currently receiving considerable airplay throughout Europe the UK and the United States with their current single “Whiskey Castles” on the Comstock Records label.

Bill “Dawg” Moore has been a singer/songwriter for many years with a love for anything country although he sometimes can be a bit rock’n’roll. He writes by himself as well as with other people. Tom McCormick of The Amazing McNasty Brothers is one of his favourite writing partners.

The band draw from many influences, from classic country to blues, rock, Latin and anything else that "catches our ears." The Dirt Road Rockers conist of, Al Globekar who produced the album with Bill plays anything with a string on it. He is also the musical director for the band. Danny Joe Cox is a slide guitar player as well as slide mandolin, a style he devised himself. There's Rob Luoma on drums, Bobby Lanphier is a guitarist who plays electric, acoustic, mandolin, and sings on vocals. John “Slap” Daubenspeck is the bass player. Slap has been with Bill Dawg for over ten years, he also sings.

The 11 tracks on this album, all penned or co-penned by Bill and/or Tom McCormick, showcase the bands many influences, from the late 50s Rock n' Rollin' sound of "Dirt Road Rockers" ..........a great track that I challenge anyone to keep their feet still to..........and the 60s Merseybeat styling of "It Takes All Kinds"..........complete with Beatles style intro...........to the later sounds of the Mark Knopfler-ish "30 Days." In fact most of the album has a 60s feel about it, although it doesn't sound as if it was intentional to re-create that sound, but more like they grew up listening to it, that is what is in their heads and that's what feels most natural to play.

Other tracks that stand out for me are "Ten Dollar Songs," one that sound like it's come from the catalogue of the late Gram Parsons, the opening cut, "Old Dance Floor" a song that would have gone down well on the dance floors of the late 60s, and the most country tracks on the album, "Whiskey Castles," the current single that is doing so well at the moment, and "You Ain't No Honky-Tonk Woman," a very catchy song I'm sure would do well if released as a follow up single.

Other tracks on the album include "Can't Compare To Lovin' You," a Country ballad, the Tex Mex flavoured "I Thought You Were My Baby," and "Moonlight On The Costa Del Sol" plus the 70s rock ballad sound of "Hot Desert Nights."

If you're looking for a good, solid country album, then this isn't it! But if like me, you grew up listening to the pop music of the 60s as a teenager, moving into Country music later on, then this album is well worth checking out. Bill "Dawg" And The Dirt Road Rockers are a very talented bunch of musicians, who I would imagine go down a storm on their live gigs. (I only wish I lived near enough to go and see them!!)

This self titled effort is a fine album, and one that brought back a few memories for me!
It will certainly be getting many plays on Radio Metro!!!!
