Born
in Buffalo, New York, Dixon began piano lessons at the age of 4. His
Mother was a Piano Teacher and his Father was a Doctor. A classmate
of Oscar Hammerstein's Physician, who took him to his first Broadway
musical at the age of 5, Dixon says, he has been hooked on the art-form
ever since. Particularly English Music Hall, type Theatre. To this
day, "HALF A SIXPENCE," is still one of his favourites.
Dixon
attended and graduated from an East Coast Prep School, went to college
in Mexico and served in the Far East; Tokyo, Hong Kong and environs
for the U.S. Government for several years.
He
later became a staff writer in New York and wrote "special"
material for New York nightclub acts. Dixon has also written and won
awards for the music plays he has done in the children's field, some
of which have been produced and performed at various elementary schools
around the U.S. He has been named Music Director of a Made For TV
Film with a circa 1940's setting and has had a song recently used
in a TV Sitcom Pilot that was broadcast in several major markets and
has yet to be picked up for syndication.
If
you are wondering why Dixon DeVore is being featured as a songwriter
on a Country Music website, the answer is that for some time now,
this prolific songwriter has been writing Country songs and working
with numerous emerging Nashville artists such as, Karen Pendley, ("Impossible
Dreams", "Come On Back To Boston", "The Fort Worth
Polka", "Texas Rose" and
"I've Been Looking For You".) Chip Brown, Yudkin
Smith and Jeremiah Jeriah, who were chosen to record songs showing
the humorous side of this talented songwriter, ("Can
You Drink Beer In Heaven", "Never Sleep Under A Coconut
Tree" "Please Mr Lee" and
"I'd Jump Off A Bridge For You,") as well as talented
guitarist Mike Sutterfield who excellently performs some fine instrumentals
such as, "Alicia", "Jessica,"
"Bryanna" and my own personal favourite, the wonderful
"Carina." Mike is also called upon as a vocalist
on occasion's, with the wonderful, "Little
Girl Eye's" being my favourite. Dixon has also made forays
into Gospel music with 3 songs, ("A House
Is Not A Home", "Straight Into His Arms" and
"Keep Him In Mind") being recorded by Martha Carson.
At
the time of writing, 9 of Dixon's songs have appeared in the European
Top 40 charts
as tracked and charted by EMS European
Media Services
.. with the current entry being Aaron Nobles
recording of "Don't Play With Guns,"
a song that made the charts even though it wasn't on any of
the media compilation's and was mailed out to European DJ's, only
by Dixon personally.
Pretty impressive stuff!
Much
more than your average songwriter, Dixon DeVore II is so versatile,
he can come up with the goods whether you are looking for country
music, songs for special occasion's (his 21 track CD, "Songs
For A Wedding" is sure to provide a song for that very special
occasion) or music and stories to keep the kids entertained ("Mortimer
The Very Rich Mouse" succeeded in keeping my 5 year old Granddaughter
quiet for ages, so it must be good!!!).
Currently
residing in the pristine forests of Southern New Hampshire with wife,
Barbara, and miniature Dachshund, Leah, Dixon is also a music publisher
and label owner.
