George McAnthony was born in 1966 in the north Italian region South-Tyrol, in the middle of the Alps. After volunteering in development aid projects in Ethiopia from '85 to '87 he started his career as a professional country singer. George recorded his first album "GREEN IS PEACE" in 1988, followed by "TOGETHER", released in 1990. The 3rd album "COUNTRY WAY OF LIFE" was recorded in Nashville-Tennessee in 1992. In the same year George met JOHN DENVER in New York City and performed on stage with him in a big concert in Italy singing duet on some of John's greatest hits. George McAnthony performs over a 100 concerts every year, most of them in Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. George McAnthony is also known as "The Country One Man Band", because he performs in a very unique and original way, playing seven acoustic instruments altogether at the same time, live, without any backing or support of other musicians. The 4th album "LIVE ON THE ROAD" was recorded in this way in 1994. In 1996 he produced his 5th album "LIKE A COUNTRY BOY" from which Comstock Records released two songs on international Country-Samplers. Both songs charted, helping George McAnthony to become winner of the Award "Best European Vocalist of the Year '97", by the European Country Music Association. In March 2000 George McAnthony recorded 12 new original compositions for this, his eighth album, "The Vision" at the "Hilltop Studios" in Nashville. "Ramblin' Cowgirl" is a mid tempo song about a tomboyish cowgirl. There's some fine harmonica playing from George on this one. The tempo picks up again for "Animal Hope Shuffle," a song that speaks of caring for animals, something that is close to George's heart.
"Everything In You"
is a mid paced love song that George dedicates to his wife, Sonja,
before the tempo picks up again for the Honkey-tonkin'
"Heroes Never Cry," a song that has just been released
as the new single on the ECMA sampler. Many of us keep our true feelings locked up inside, prefering to tell people everythings o.k when it's not. That is the subject for "Show My True Emotions" while "High & Low" is a lively honky tonker telling of how life be up one minute and down the next. Title track, "The Vision" is an Indian's tale of looking to the future and wondering how the world is going to be. This song has George sounding a little like Neil Diamond in places. The cheerful "The Little Things That I Like" is a simple song that talks about just what the title say's while "Mississippi River Dance" is a very catchy tune, laden with plenty banjo and harmonica. This is sure to get the dancers on the floor. After letting his rich family stand in the way of his love for a truckdriver's daughter, "One more Chance" is a good little story song that has the subject turning agains't them to run away and get married. George get's out his harmonica again for the the albums closer, "Put Me Down," a lively track that chugs along to the rythm of a train.
"The Vision" is a fine album of solid country music, that shows George McAnthony to be a very talented songwriter and artist. I have no hesitation in recommending the album and look forward to the possibility of catching him in concert sometime, if he decides to tour over here. Website
