Hermann
Lammers Meyer is one of Europe's top vocalist and steel guitarists
and is also the leader of Germany's very popular "Emsland Hillbillies".
Herman travels to Nashville to record his album's, where he enlists
the services of some of Nashville's finest musician's such as, Buddy
Spicher and Johnny Gimble on Fiddle, Pete Wade and Michael Ballew(a
fine artist in his own right) on Guitar's, Hargus-Pig-Robbins on Piano,
Johnny Bush on Drums (as well as vocals) and the legendary Jimmy Day
& Buddy Emmons on Pedal Steel. Although Hermann is himself a fine
Pedal Steel player, with these two legends around, who can blame him
for leaving the steel work to them.
Stories
We Could Tell is a 'best of' compilation, released on the Tyrolis
Music label, which I think is
..probably
.. Germany's answer
to the Telstar label over here. Containing a value for money 24 tracks,
12 are self penned by this talented and popular German artist and
stand up very well alongside material from the likes of Willie Nelson,
Fred Rose and Ernest Tubb.
Most
of the tracks on here are taken from the album's, "Till The End
Of Time," "The Last Country Song" and "I'd Like
To Live It Again" while also included is one of Hermann's
in
my opinion
.. finest, self-penned songs, the wonderful "Song
For Sarah," which tells a tragic story of a letter he
received from a fan, a song previously released as a single. Even
if you have most of Hermann's recordings, it is worth the price of
the album for this one alone!!!
The
star-studded guest list on the album includes, Willie Nelson and Norma
Jean who join Hermann on Ernest Tubb's "There's
A Little Bit Of Everything In Texas," while Norma Jean
also adds her vocals to the self penned "Till
The End Of Time." Kitty Wells and husband Johnny Wright
join Hermann on the rousing "Hillbilly
Fever" and Johnny Bush helps out on his own composition
"The Last Country Song." Pure
Texas country music at it's very best!!
One
of country music's newer, young artists, Clay Blaker steps up to the
mike on the Willie Nelson penned "Sad Songs
& Waltz's," one of four songs on the album written
by the legendary star with "You Oughta
Here Me Cry," "Lonely Little Mansion" and
"I Just Don't Understand"
on which
Hermann is joined by the great Billy Walker, who is still in fine
voice
being the others.
Female
vocal group The Callaways add the atmospheric Yodels on "Rose
Of The Mountains" while Hermann's sister, Marion Möhring
let's us know that performing talent runs in the family as she joins
her brother on his self penned ballad "Faithfull."
"Stories
We Could Tell" is a very good representation of the music of
Hermann Lammers Meyer, a solid country artist, who I have been a big
fan of ever since first hearing his music a couple of years ago. If
you have never bought a H.L.M album before, then make sure you get
a hold of this compilation. After you've played it, I wouldn't mind
betting it has you scouring the record shops for more of this very
talented man's recordings.
