Harold Rogers
Deep Into Texas Country |
|
A self taught guitarist, Harold grew up with a love for country music, watching the Grand Ole Opry, The Ernest Tubb Show, and the Cowboy Weaver Show on Saturdays. At eight years old, he made his first public appearance for his third grade class. At sixteen he started playing in clubs around Texas. Throughout his career, Harold has shared the stage with many performers such as Johnny Gimble, Leon Rausch, Johnny Bush, Johnny Rodriques, Tony Douglas, Bill Mack, Frankie Miller, Justin Hall, Bill Thacker, and many others! The album reviewed here, (Deep Into Texas Country) has already won "Airplay International (Nashville) Album of the Year." All songs, barr one, are either written by Harold, or co-written with Eddie Thomas. The album opens with "Texas I Love You," a slow waltz that see's him declaring his love for the Lonestar State. Harold picks up the tempo slightly for "Closer To The Dawn" and "I'll Live My Life Alone," a couple of catchy two steppers telling of love gone wrong, while "Ole Buck" is a very enjoyable, fast paced, Banjo laden track about a Blue Heeler dog. "88 Old's" is a great fun track, penned by Harold, that is very reminiscent in style of Bobby Bare, and is probably my favourite track on the album. The tempo is taken right back down again for the ballad, "Just A Picture," a song that has him explaining to his partner, why he keeps a picture of an old flame on the wall. I'm a lover of Country Shuffles, and there's a couple of good un's here in, "Don't Give Me No Reason" and "Eye's Of Blue," a song that tells of meeting the girl of his dreams, a theme also called upon for the midpaced two stepper, "Teenage Queen." "When The Whiskey Drove To Town" is a song with a very hard hitting storyline, that should be listened to by anyone thinking of driving after they have had a drink. Excellent!! Harold shows he can also handle the rockers with "Don't Give Up On Love," while to close the album, Harold chooses the co-penned Gospel song, "God Made Heaven For Me And You." This
is a fine album of traditional country music from a man who has been
in the business a long time. There is no doubt, many of these tracks
will be finding their way onto the Metro Country playlist in the coming
weeks and months. Also worth checking out is Harold's current single release, "Cinderella." This is an extremely catchy song that just keeps going round in your head. I have already played this one twice on the show, and will most certainly be playing it again!
The single also contains a fine duet with Kathy D. Baker on the wonderful
ballad,
