My first introduction to the wonderful voice of Lorena Prater was via a duet she did with R J McClintock on his "Heartland Country U.S.A. album. I stated then that I would be looking out for some of her own recordings, and here I get the chance to review her latest offering, "The Real Deal."

The album contains two tracks penned by Lorena, one by R J McClintock and covers of a couple of country music classics among it's ten tracks. Of the two self penned tracks, the title track "The Real Deal," is a modern country track with a funky beat that is sure to find favour with radio, while the fast paced "Senseless Devotion" is a more traditional sounding track with some great fiddle playing, that is sure to get the linedancers on the floor.

R J McClintock returns the favour by providing the very catchy "Boogie Woogie Cowboy Heart," a great song that begs you to keep pressing the repeat button and is another that is sure to fill the dancefloors.

Lorena takes on the classics with an excellent cover of Johnny Paycheck's "Appartment #9" a song that did so much for Tammy Wynette, while her version of Kris Kristofferson's much covered, "Me And Bobby McGee," one of my all time favourite songs, sadly didn't find much favour with me this time round. She even takes on the rock classics with a very good version of Fleetwood Mac's, "Don't Stop."

Other tracks on here include two Kent Westbury and Eddie Burton compositions, starting with the lively shuffler "Half Past Lonesome" a great song with a Dwight Yoakam style guitar riff and "He's So Happy I Could Cry" a waltz that see's her losing out in love.

The albums producer W.C.Edgar also get's in the writing credits with "Just For A Second" a nice ballad that once again has her losing out in love while "For Pete's Sake" is a very moving song, penned by Michael Anthony Curtis and Leonard Le Blanc, about the devastation felt when a partner dies, and how you have to carry on for the sake of the children. Excellent!!

"The Real Deal" is an album that couples some great songs with the wonderful voice of Lorena Prater. Do yourself a favour and pull out all the stops to get hold of a copy of this excellent album from a lady who truly is THE REAL DEAL!

Highly Recommended!!!!!
