Following a previous HIT album "Six Feet Deep In The Heart Of Texas," Carl Vaughan comes up with an absolute cracker in "Yours Forever!" The album contains 12 tracks, mixing covers of old classics with some very good, new, original material. With half a dozen shuffles, three two steppers, a couple of ballads and even a fun song, this is an album no self respecting country music fan should be without. Stand out tracks for me......although there isn't a single bad track on the album......include the title track, an absolutely stunning version of Red Simpson's "Yours Forever," that is guaranteed to have you pressing the repeat button over and over again and is worth the price of the album on it's own. There is also a great version of Dave Kirby's "You're Just Another Beer Drinking Song" with everyone in the studio joining in for a rowdy chorus at the end. Carl also does a great job with the Willie Nelson/Ray Price co-write, "I Just Destroyed The World I'm Living In," a song that has also been recently covered by another Indie artist, Charlie Shearer, although Carl handles it in a very different way. Darrell McCall is an artist you don't hear anything of these days, but Carl reminds us with a fine version of "The Marionette." My pick of the originals......at least I think these are the originals, as they are new to me.........include the lively, two steppin' "Walk Off The World," the slower "You Oughta Try Getting Over Me," and the Cowboy shuffler, "The Rodeo Is Over," all from the pen of Jerry Max Lane. Carl has a strong, powerful and very likeable voice, that I would compare very much to Ray Price, especially on the title track. Do yourself a favour and get hold of a copy of this excellent album. It is already down as one of my favourite albums of the year. E mail: raftervrecords@aol.com |
