Glynn
Martin has been writing country music for over thirty years. He has
written for publishers in Nashville such as Sony, Tree International,
ATV and Mel Tillis at Sawgrass Music. Glynn has had the privilege
of writing with such great writers as Roger Bowling whose credits
include "Lucille", "Coward Of The County" and
other great hits by Kenny Rogers. Dalton Roberts who wrote Nat Stuckeys
hit "Don't Pay The Ransom" and Ruthie Steele, who wrote
"The Coldest Day Since 1951".
This
latest album from Glynn is dedicated to the memory of Roger Bowling
and contains 4 of his songs. Probably most well known is
"Lucille," co-written by Roger with another fine
songwriter, Hal Bynum, the song is given an excellent outing here
by Glynn and to be honest, I prefer this version to Kenny's.
Glynn
also does a good job on "Dig A Little Deeper
In The Well." Also co-written by Roger Bowling, this time
with Jody Emerson, the song was recorded by The Oakridge Boys over
20 years ago now and has seen a few covers in it's time since then.
This is definitely one of the better ones! Other songs from The pen
of the late Roger are "The Diplomat,"
earlier recorded by Johnny Cash and "Yellow
Pages," a song I know I've heard before, but I just can't
remember who by.
Two
of the tracks on here have already seen top 10 action in the EMS European
charts for Glenn. The title track, "Uncle
Sam, Mr Jukebox And My Ex Wife," a song penned by Mike
Headrick and the Cajun flavoured "Bayou
Moon," penned by Glynn with Roberta Martin and Linda Fryer.
Of
the remaining 6 songs, 5 are co-written by Glen with other coming
from the pen of label boss, Mike Headrick. I particularly like the
ballad, "Your Love Amazes Me"(not
to be confused with the John Berry hit of the same name) written by
Glynn with Roberta Martin, the song is done as a duet with Canadian
artist Barb Marchuk. Not normally a fan of Gospel music, the song
has a great melody and benefits from some superb acoustic guitar picking
from
.I think
.Mike Headrick. I don't think I have
ever enjoyed a Gospel tune so much!
Glynn
also gets together with label mate, Hatchett and wife Bobbi for the
albums closer, "Rusty," the
story of an ex rodeo cowboy who's wife decides she has finally had
enough of his heavy drinking and womanising.
With
some superb musicianship throughout from Kenny Berry on Session Lead
and Bass Guitar, Joe Caverlee on Fiddle and Mandolin, Bob Courtier
on Drums and label boss Mike Headrick, on everything else, "Uncle
Sam, Mr Jukebox And My Ex Wife" is a fine album, with enough
good tracks to see further possible chart success for this popular
artist.
Check
it out!!.
