Poker Alice are a 5 piece band from Switzerland, who like more than a little Rock with their Country. Comprising of Monika Schär on Vocals, Rudy Birchler and Daniel Schwarz on Guitars, Mr Blaze on Bass and Chris Hochuli on Drums, this band are very good at what they do, but they aren't likely to appeal to the traditional country music fan.

Last year the band released a great single, "Blue Sky," which I have played on the show more than a few times, but since then they seem to have gone more rocky and this latest 10 track album from the band is a good exemple of that. The album contains 9 country/heavy rockers, with just one slow ballad, "Forever," a nice love ballad, but at 5mins 34secs, it may be just a little too long to attract much radio airplay.

Pick of the other tracks for me include, the opening track, "The Rainbow," and "Southbound," plus the one's that are most likely to appeal to country fans, the catchy "Wish You Were Here" "Louisiana" and "I Miss You," with the latter three tracks being the only one's that could possibly be considered for my Metro Country show. The other four tracks, "Weird," the very hard rocking "Wake Me Up" and "Where I Want To Go," plus the mid paced "Misery" are only likely to appeal to rock music fans.

If you're idea of good country music includes heavy, overdriven guitar sounds, then this is most definitely for you. Poker Alice are a very good outfit, I have no doubt about that! You just need a country music fan with a broader outlook to appreciate them!
