There is no doubt that this latest album from Robin Right is aimed at the Linedance market, there are even dance steps to one of the songs, "Tex Appeal," included in the sleeve notes. But to say the album would only be of interest to Linedance fans, would be very unfair. There is a wide variation of country music styles on here to please all fans of good country music, whether they dance or not. To record this 12 track album, Robin went all the way over to Finland to record in a barn!!! It was obviously an inspired move as the quality of the production and the excellent musicianship couldn't have been bettered had it been recorded in Nashville. The other thing that struck me when I played this CD, was how much Robin sounds like the late Tammy Wynette. In fact, the resemblance is quite remarkable in places. Robin has that same break in her voice and that slight huskiness that the late queen of country music used to have. Kicking off with the rocking "Show Me The Money,"…….a certain floor filler in the dance clubs………. there's also the even harder rocking "Watchin'," for those who are that way inclined. Robin also adds a touch of Rock-a-Billy, with the fast paced and appropriately titled "Mercy," while if Western/Swing" is your thing, then "Tex Appeal," and the slower "Mighty Short Forever," are a couple of good tunes that are sure to please. If you want some country/blues, then look no further than "Sit Down," while if it's slow songs you want, then "Don't Drop Me I'm Fragile" is a nice song in three quarter time and "Angels And Devils" is a ballad penned by Dan Page that all parents can probably relate to. "All God's children are angels with a little bit of devil thrown in." Tell me about it!!! Cajun country is also visited with the catchy, "Love Him Or Leave Him To Me" and "Kiss And Make Up" a duet with Rejd Nylund, a man to whom English is his third language! You wouldn't believe it listening to him here. With the two steppin' "Nothing To Do" and the fun, "You May Have A Problem" making up the dozen, this is a fine album from Robin Right, who just happens to be sitting at #13 in the European charts as I write, with "Show Me The Money." There are so many good songs on here to choose singles from, I think it highly likely, we will be seeing much more from this talented artist in future charts. Do as the title say's and get hold of a copy "Right Away!" You won't be disappointed! The album is being distributed by Broadway U.K. Contact Victor Gray at country@broadwayuk.co.uk |
