Wade Vincent Root was born in Ft. Atkinson , Wisconsin, one of five children and the fourth child of Duane and Judith Root. Music has been a part of his life from an early age. His earliest recollections are of listening to and singing along with the great country songs on the radio. George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Elvis, Merle Haggard and Buck Owns became like old friends, and Wade knew music would someday play a part in his life. By the time he was in his teens, Wade began playing in local clubs and dance halls with several different bands. While the band's music might have reflected more of a "rock" influence, Root still loved to sing the country songs that touched people's hearts. Preferring to leave the songwriting side of things to the pros," Wade say's "It takes Hank Cochran three lines to say something it would take me three verses to say. Writers are really the artists; I just try to give the writer something back with my "interpretation." Wade Chooses his songs carefully, "A song has to 'feel' right to me and the lyrics have to convey real emotion," he said. Well, Wade has certainly chosen well when it comes to songwriters for this album, with top names like, Hank Cochran, Dean Dillon and Keith Stegall just three I could mention. Opening up with his current single, "She Don't Know What It's Like" is a good, modern country/rocker that is hovering just outside the EMS European Top 40 as I write and must surely be a good bet for the top 10. The honky-tonkin' "Mama's Long Leggin'" and "Give It Back" are a couple of dance-floor fillers for sure, as is the mid-paced two stepper "A Little Bit Of Love," while "You Mean The World to Me," is a pop/rocker that didn't really appeal to me, but will probably boost his appeal to the Major labels, given the way that country music has gone in Nashville these days. For me, Wade really shines when he slows things down on songs like the title track, "Our Bed Of Roses," a wonderful song, penned by Keith Stegall and Zak Turner, that allows Wade to show us what a magnificent voice he has, a voice so pure, it cut's through you like a knife through butter. Stegall also co-wrote the heartbreaking "That Makes One Of Us" about the break-up of a marriage, as is the Wesley Dennis penned, "Leave Me A Picture of You," the Linda Buell penned "If You Think You're Lonely," the albums closer, "It Ain't Over Here" and the Hank Cochran/Dean Dillon penned, "Little Bits And Pieces," a song in which he tries in vain to remember the good parts of a relationship that has died. Pure magic!!! Other ballads on here include "Sure Had My Heart Set On You" and the pop tinged "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." Up to now, Wade has been putting his efforts into building up the family business, a company that places disabled and elderly adults in private homes. With the business now firmly established, Wade is ready to give his talents to music full-time and that can only be good news for Country Music fans. This excellent debut album has just arrived on my desk in time to be considered for my top 10 albums of 2001, and will definitely be a strong contender for the top spot! With a voice that rates alongside artists like Vince Gill, Wade Vincent Root is destined to be a Country Music superstar, of that I am certain. A European tour is being talked about, I only hope that includes coming over to England. E Mail: martha@somuchmoore.com |
