DAVID SHELBY DEBUTS AT THE TOP OF THE CHARTS
It's always exciting when the new Hotdisc CD produces a bunch of new entries on their first week of impact, and newcomer to Hotdisc, David Shelby, has gone straight to number 1 with his debut European single, "Kick A Little Dirt Around," which benefits from a superb video which is currently available to watch on our charts page. David's song has swept aside last week's number 1 record by the Lawrence John Project, which drops to 3 while Nicki Gillis is unlucky as she finally gets past the LJP only to be parked behind David Shelby to retain her number 2 position.
There are three big entries inside the Top 10 with another newcomer, Hoyt Hughes, coming in at 5 with his first single in this territory, "Happy Ending," while Andy Griggs debuts at 10 with "I Don't Let Go."
The Hayley Oliver Band lead the British contingent with a new entry at 11 with "Could I Be More Blue" with the help of Albert Lee on guitar. That song has gone in at number 2 on the British and Irish Top 10 which means she hasn't managed to knock herself off the top spot but she does get a 1-2 on the homegrown chart which is pretty rare. Her other song, "Right Person At The Right Time" has now spent 8 weeks at number 1 and would probably be challenging Rob Allen for the longest run at the top of the charts if it wasn't for her new single coming in and probably taking over at the summit sooner rather than later, but we shall see.
Chip Taylor, Randy Thompson, Stephanie Jansen, Joanna Mosca and Tony Clarke all land their new singles inside the Top 20 this week.
