Bernadette
was born in Ireland and by the age of fourteen she was already singing
with local bands. Aged twenty she moved to England and formed her own
band. She gained chart successes in Europe and eventually toured California for 3 years but still only charted in Europe, so eventually she and two friends decided to move to Nashville and she signed up with Rosebud Records in 1999. She has had many songs on radio sampler Macountry volumes, and fares quite well in Nashville, but American airings still elude her and the European charts are still her main success. I
class the album as the easy listening type of country, but must admit
I felt that a couple of the tracks were a little out of place especially
if the album is meant to attract American interest. Bernadette has a
lovely voice and confidence oozes through all the tracks, supported
by excellent musicians, on this well produced album. My
favourite tracks are "I'd Choose You Again", but what song
would fail when the credits read Paul Overstreet & Don Shlitz, and
"Daddy Laid The Blues On Me". I would have liked to have heard
a few more upbeat numbers in order to give the album a little more balance
and although there are songs by good established writers, I feel that
it still has that British sound about it. It will attract more interest in Europe than the States, but nonetheless, quite a pleasant album. Websites:
