This is the second CD of Myra's that I have had the pleasure of reviewing. She still lives with her husband and two daughters on their horse ranch in Montana where she has her own studio. "Drag Your Own Wagon" kicks off with a good old country song, previously recorded by Doug Stone, "These Lips Don't Know How To Say Goodbye" by the great Harlan Howard, and I must say I think the lyrics are more suited to a female artist and Myra comes up with an excellent version. The title track "Drag Your Own Wagon" will get your feet tapping as we gallop along with a great western swing number, and Myra excels with this type of beat. We continue with "Somebody Else Look" a song about a lost love. I think it is only in country music that we can get a sad song with a nice happy beat. A number covered by Gene Watson follows " A Better Place To Die" a typical country ballad and this is followed by the up-tempo jazzy number "Bad Times" another Harland Howard number featured on his Homeland album. The lovely ballad "I'll Save My Love For You" returns us to more relaxed mood and continuing in the same vein we hear the number that brought fame and stardom for Kitty Wells "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" a song I am sure you are all familiar with. A song recorded by Reba McEntire "Whose Heartache Is This Anyway" brings us back to a more upbeat theme and we are then treated to a country blues number "Tell Me Something New" reminiscent of Patsy Cline. The album closes with a nice swinging number "Tried And Blue". I
think this is a better album than "Somebody Loves Me" as I
find it a more balanced production. The instruments are used to great
effect on all the tracks and it is a credit to all the musicians and
obviously a lot of credit must go to the producer Norro Wilson, who
I don't think would accept anything that wasn't up to standard. To be fair I cannot pick a favourite track as I enjoyed them all and this CD will certainly be a good addition to anybody's collection.
