Storm' Soundbytes

This
is Western Union's second album and contains six covers and six self-penned
tracks. The album kicks off with a foot tapping number, 'New Western Union Blues' written by Ron Ronson & Bernard Fullalove and I suppose this will be their theme tune from now on. This is followed in similar vein by the popular 'Queen of Memphis' and then we hear the first ballad on the CD 'Quiet Storm', written by Jim Hulmes, and what a great track this is, allowing us to hear the great quality and feeling that Jim puts into this type of song. Of the six covers on the album I particularly like 'Down By The Boondocks', a Joe South number, as it is something different, and as with all the songs on this album, features regularly in their stage act. 'Nothin' Could've Prepared Me For You' was written by Jim when he was presented with twin grandsons, which shows how songs materialise from events in one's life. 'Backtrackin',
written by Bernard is a great upbeat number that has a real American
flavour to it, whilst Jim's 'Full Grown Man' is a nice gentle flowing
ballad about a lost love, as is 'You & Me Mr. D' but this time the
ache being comforted by turning to the bottle. The CD is superbly produced by the band, helped by the engineering expertise of Pete Traughton, and will sit well in any record collection. Western
Union are:- Jim Hulmes-Lead Vocals/Guitar.
Tony Carter-Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals.
Bernard Fullalove-Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals.
Ron Ronson-Slide/Steel/Rhythm & Lead
Guitars (plus anything else he can get his hands on) and Backing
Vocals. Mike Martin-Percussion. If you attend any of their gigs I would highly recommend that you purchase this fine album of carefully selected material which makes up this well balanced CD.
